Two down and more to go…

So I have shot two registered tournaments so far this season and Wayne has shot one. Just getting ready for the next seven or eight weekends in a row starting Memorial Weekend!

Hope everyone is having fun and looking forward to the great summer ahead!

I am …

I see in the Skeet Shooting Review that there is a section called “I am the NSSA…” with blurbs on shooters from around the country with little tid bits of information about them.

I thought I would start one here on the blog that we could complete with answers that might not necessarily be published otherwise – Copy what I have written and type in your own answers in your comment – here we go:

Linda Steen – Red Oak, Texas

Occupation: Putting out fires at my office and obtaining Platinum status on American Airlines each year.

Home Gun Club: The place I am flying to on any particular week during the season.

What do you like best about your home club: The upgrades and miles.

First Gun ever owned: K80

Current skeet gun: Kolar Legend

How many tournaments do you shoot a year? As many as Wayne will let me shoot with him.

What is your toughest challenge on the skeet field? Not getting shot by Parker and returning fire.

What is your mindset going to your first station? Nothing – I just look at Wayne, shoot and then smile – pull.

If you could ask any three people to join your squad, who would it be and why? Todd because I love him and miss him, anyone to replace Parker and anyone who throws out once-fired hulls.

How has skeet helped you in other aspects of life? Skeet has helped me not worry about everything else, like my child, my job and anything else that used to be important to me.

Last good movie you saw? The Blind Side

Favorite Meal: Red Wine – or whatever Wayno is buying for me.

To go or not to go……

So we got an email from Target Talk awhile back with a link to the Master’s registration form. Filled it out, made my plane ticket, booked a hotel on priceline at a good price, even got charged our $600 deposit for the squad on Wayne’s MasterCard.

So now we are sitting here waiting to see if we are going to Savannah instead of Ft. Bragg? I know I am not the only one who has made these advance reservations. I guess I can afford to take the $200+ hit on the hotel, pay a $150 change fee on my ticket and add the additional airfare of $229 + tax, but there are people who only shoot a few shoots a year that have made reservations for this shoot in Ft. Bragg and will not be able to make the changes to go to Savannah. What about them?

I think a simple lesson of not putting the cart before the horse would have worked here. Not counting your chickens before they hatch maybe or just a good old dose of common sense. Don’t publish registration documents and take people’s money before you have a signed contract. Very simple.

T-Bird

2008 HOA Co-Champions
Today happens to be Todd Bender’s birthday, so I thought I would do a little blog on the Best Two Man Team Partner Ever.

Most everyone who knows Todd is familiar with his achievements – perfects scores, three 550’s back to back, numerous World Championships and World Records, but not everyone knows where and when Todd starting shooting. I asked him awhile back and he told me that he started shooting with his dad, Hank Bender in 1972 in the Los Angeles area. They shot at the skeet field on Fort MacArthur and at the Winchester West Club in Long Beach. Both clubs are defunct now.

Todd will be inducted to the California Skeet Hall of Fame while attending the California State Shoot in Stockton this summer and his two man team partner of 20+ years will be there shooting with him.

Happy Birthday T – may your day and fridge be full!
Happy Birthday T-Bird!

2010 Kreighoff Masters

I haven’t seen a link on the NSSA site for the Master’s but I did just receive an email from Target Talk with pre-registration information.  No drawing – First Come – First Served based on postmark date.

Check your email for the link!

80/20

They say that everything is 80/20.  For instance a job or a relationship.  80% of the time it’s great and 20% of the time you just have to deal with it or in a more gentle fashion – work on it.

What is your 80/20 when it comes to skeet?  Are the first four guns the 80 and the .410 the 20?  Are the tournaments your favorite and the cost your least?

Whenever I have the 80/20 at work or skeet- there is one person that uses up most of my 20% – I just think about the 80% and it keeps me going.

No matter where you go or what you if you put the best spin on it odds are it will come our in your favor.

Bowled Out…

Yesterday involved 12 hours of multiple bowl games.  I am officially bowled out.  We are still trying to finalize the 2010 shooting schedule.

Speaking of bowling – I think we are supposed to keggle with the Paxton’s in the next month or two.  Have to keep busy during the off season!

More tomorrow…….

It has begun….

January 1st, 2010!  Happy New Year everyone!  First blog of the year with mimosa in hand.  Things are starting off well and par for the course.  We received an email around 7:00 a.m. asking if we had any spots at certain shoots and a phone call at 8:00 a.m. from Marshall asking questions about trap shooting.  Just a regular day here at the house.

So what do we do this month as far as skeet is concerned? Well the first order of business is to get all of our squadding information for Dallas to Woody.  Second would be for me to make all of our hotel reservations and book all of my plane tickets.  I reached Platinum on American last year – thanks to trips to England, Mexico, Switzerland and Hawaii.  I don’t think anyone loves miles and points more than I do except for T-Bird maybe.   It’s all about the miles – right T?

Although our first shoots of the year won’t be until April (me) and May (Wayne), we are still going to be busy until then.  Dallas has shoots in January and February, TSSA directors meeting in February, plenty of website work for TSSA, Ladies Charity, and a few other projects I am working on for people.  Wayne is ready to start loading a few bullets.   We are making it back to the United Kingdom again this spring.  We missed our flight to Ireland for a day trip, so this year we are taking my daughter there for our respective birthdays and St. Patrick’s Day.   More on that later.

I hope this blog will be interesting to some, strange to others :)   Keep checking back for interesting information on people we know as I try to feature them on their birthdays – a special one coming up in about a week.  Stay tuned!

Introducing Wayne’s World

I am starting a skeet blog on Wayne’s website beginning January 01, 2010.

Wayne does not touch a computer, as I do not touch reloaders, so this will be all me doing the blogging, but of course Wayno will be adding his two cents worth from time to time.

This is intended for skeet shooters with extra spins on other shooting disciplines.

Follow us through out the skeet season and let’s see how it goes……
